"I have worked with Addison Plant Ltd on and off for 20 years and recently completed a public realm scheme in regenerating Stockton High St. This was a two year project upgrading the bus routes and hard landscaping.

I was very impressed with APL’s attitude regarding safety and their consideration to the public as this is a busy High St with events been held throughout the year. The safe digging practices employed resulted in zero service strikes which is highly commendable due to the complex network of services and underground tanks/cellars encountered.

The works consisted of drainage, ducting, earthworks and street furniture with the value of circa £3m and a large number of site operatives at any one time."

PROJECT SUMMARY The regeneration of Stockton Town Centre provides an area of public space that will attract investment and business, whilst giving residents and visitors an improved environment. It is also flexible enough to facilitate a wide range of events. The project included the realignment of the existing highway with the introduction of bus turning facilities. Demolition of an existing building created areas for car parking, as well as a new public realm scheme covering the area which  included new paving, street furniture and landscaping, incorporating a water feature. Our work included: Extensive trial holing and slit trenches using our Air Vac Machine to locate all existing services Excavating and disposal of existing paving and kerbing. York stone paving was saved for re-use. Installation of tree pits 3m x 2m x 1.5m deep and heavily reinforced lighting column bases 2.5m x 2.5m x 1.8m deep. Surface water drainage including connections to Northumbrian Water sewers. Traffic signals and street lighting ducts. Laying a 100mm thick concrete slab over the whole area on which new pavement is laid. Night shifts and Sunday work was implemented to move bus stops including bus kerbs and road crossings as well as work in shop doorways maintaining access.
